Abstract

A Research on Communication between Korean Festivals and Politicians

    Kyung-suk Yoo

    Abstract

This study started from the intention or curiosity to scientifically and objectively reveal the correlations between the Korean festivals and politics, and to find methodology to improve the relations, not from the emotional judgment or assumption driven by the public opinions on a lethargic image of local festivals that they have been ensnared in red tape and abused with political logics since the past two decades of renaissance, and a negative recognition about politicians who have used the local festivals for the sake of public relations or campaigns. The relevant research results were quite interesting. ①an unwelcome important guest, ②a likeable politician as long as he is flexible, ③an old-fashioned image without originality, ④the one putting the cart before the horse. There are also some suggestions. First, festivals can be a double-edged swords; if the authoritarians take good advantage of the festivals they can work for them and if not, their behaviors such as trying to expose their faces to their voters without any effective strategies are likely to backfire on them in the form of bad reputation like 'an old-fashioned' politician or 'the one putting cart before the horse. This thesis was revised and supplemented a part of a doctorate thesis to be suitable to the thesis's form.
